MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department is thanking the community for assistance in an arrest of an armed robbery suspect.

On Wednesday, police were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for the attempted robbery of a Walgreens store located on North MLK Drive.

The suspect, Lamont D. Walker, entered the Walgreens store with his face covered and a black handgun in his hand.

Store employees called police and citizens alerted officers of the suspect's whereabouts upon arrival.

Officers were then able to locate Walker on foot and take him into custody after he threw his handgun. Walker was federally charged by the United States Attorney's Office.

"We commend the citizen witness whose courageous efforts helped MPD apprehend this defendant," said United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger in a statement. "We also commend MPD's excellent work in investigating this case with remarkable speed. This case shows that by working together--citizens and law enforcement, we can make our city safer."
