MILWAUKEE, WI - A father of nine was driving when he was hit by a Milwaukee Police squad car around 10 p.m. Wednesday near 44th and Locust when police were en route to assist another officer.

“I never [saw] them, I never heard them—all I looked up and seen was the car running into me,” Jamel Tate said.

Two police officers were rushing to assist another officer with an arrest near 44th and Hadley. Tate recounts the cars colliding, then violently sliding into a pole. He remembers traveling west on Locust as the officers were headed south on 44th, driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street.

“[At one point I blacked out]. I was just scared, I was happy to be alive,” Tate said.

Tate was rushed to a hospital, but his personal belongings were left behind. He said with little help from police, he's spent Thursday trying to track down everything from his house keys to his now totaled car.

“They got me running around looking for my property. I should be able to have that. I can’t even get in the house. I can’t do nothing right now,” Tate said.

We reached out to MPD, they've yet to respond with answers to Tate’s concerns. However, police confirmed they are still investigating.

Two officers were also injured in the crash, they were treated and released from the hospital Thursday.
