RACINE – A small village full of tiny homes aimed to help homeless veterans officially opened in Racine Sunday.

The James A. Peterson Veteran's Village contains 15 tiny houses for homeless veterans in the community.

Each tiny home has the essentials for living and all the veterans have access to the SC Johnson Community Center on the property with everything else they may need.

In addition, they will have access to services and programs like resume building, job search tools along with financial and education planning.

“They are going to offer special services to help acclimate them back into the community and it's just a great place, a lot of hard work, a lot veterans, lot of volunteers put this whole deal together in the last three to four years,” said Kurt Gnich, a project coordinator

There are 39,000 homeless veterans in the United States -- 415 of them right here in Wisconsin.
