The trial continued Thursday in a Milwaukee County courtroom for a woman accused of causing the death of a 6-month-old child back in January 2016.

Carrie Heller was running an unlicensed daycare at the time when 6-month-old Finley Olsen died in her care.

Heller herself was on the stand in her own defense. The defense spent the morning asking Heller if she felt she was forced to confess in an interview with detectives.

“I just started to agree with him so I could go home,” Heller said.

When asked directly if she caused the death of Finley she said "no.”

In cross-examination, prosecutors pointed out the inconsistencies between Heller’s statements to police and her testimony in court.

In later interviews with detectives, Heller admitted to accidentally striking Finley in the head with a high chair tray that day, but failed to tell first responders.

Prosecutor Matthew Torbenson asked Heller, “Two EMTs are working on a child you just struck in the head, and you choose to intentionally withhold information from the emergency medical responders?”

Heller responded, “yes.”

Prosecutors tell TODAY'S TMJ4 that closing statements in the case are likely to happen Friday.
