Home furnishings and decor retailer Pier 1 Imports will close its Wauwatosa location.
The store, 2545 N. Mayfair Road, will shut down in late May, a Pier 1 Imports spokeswoman confirmed with the Milwaukee Business Journal. It's located directly across the street from Mayfair Mall.
"Pier 1 Imports continually reviews new and existing store locations to make sure we’re operating as efficiently as possible," said spokeswoman Melissa Simon in a statement. "Where necessary, based on that review, we make the strategic business decision to close certain locations on a case-by-case basis. We care about our shoppers in the Wauwatosa area and have enjoyed serving them over the years."
Simon said Pier 1 Imports will continue to serve its Wauwatosa-area shoppers online and at other nearby stores in Brookfield on Blue Mound Road, Greendale on 76th Street, and Glendale on North Port Washington Road.
The company previously operated a store in West Bend, but that reportedly also closed earlier this year, according to Washington County Insider. In southeast Wisconsin, it also operates locations in Grafton, Racine, Kenosha and Germantown, according to its website.
Fort Worth, Texas-based Pier 1 Imports, like other brick-and-mortar retailers, has grappled to grow sales in an industry that has been disrupted by the emergence and rise of online shopping.
