In celebration of Earth Day, more than 600 marches have taken place worldwide to show support for science. The marches also took place in several cities in Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, and the Green Bay area.
In Milwaukee, a large group of people gathered at Red Arrow Park to show their support. The march was organized by the Milwaukee Area Science Advocates (MASA). A spokesperson for the group says 2,227 people checked in to the march via text message. They estimate 3,000 people attended the march based on their aerial photography and drone footage.
"We're all curious about the world we live," said Max Krakauer, event participant. "And we want to find those answers and we need support and funding and encouragement from the people in our government to do that."
The rally began with a number of speakers who are experts in environmental sustainability and included a march down State Street.
The Milwaukee event wrapped up with several different "marcher meet ups" at local establishments, where a portion of proceeds will be donated to area science organizations.
