President Donald Trump's choice for Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, is coming under fire from Mark Pocan, an openly gay congressman from Madison.

Congressman Pocan is charging that DeVos and her family "have donated extensively to groups which promote the idea that students who identify as LGBT must undergo 'conversion' therapy."

"Conversion therapy is a form of counseling often involving religious teaching that attempts to convert someone who is homosexual," said Tom Kertscher with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Pocan claims millions were given to Focus on the Family and the Traditional Values Coalition.

PolitFact Wisconsin looked at tax records and found that a family foundation that listed DeVos as VP sent money to only one group - Focus on the Family - but found no indication LGBT students must undergo therapy.

"Focus on the Family does support the idea of conversion therapy," said Kertscher, "however we could not find any statements saying they feel students who are LGBT must undergo that kind of therapy."

PolitiFact Wisconsin rated Pocan's claim Mostly False.
