MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Bethesda Lutheran Communities says it will no longer operate about 30 group home and other programs in Wisconsin for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Bethesda said Tuesday that it is transitioning operation of the programs to Kentucky-based ResCare. That switch is expected to be in place by Oct. 7, leaving Bethesda with 19 programs in the state.
It says no further reductions are planned.

Bethesda says most of the affected employees will be offered jobs with ResCare and very little, if any, job losses are expected. Bethesda says everyone affected will be helped to transition to the new provider.

The faith-based nonprofit organization says it plans to focus less on operating group homes and more on "expanding programs and services that foster independence and integration with the community."
