Janesville's Paul Ryan easily won re-election to his U.S. House seat Tuesday night, but questions about his future as House Speaker remain.

As of 11:37 p.m., Ryan had 66 percent of the vote. Challenger Ryan Solen had 29 percent.

Throughout the 2016 campaign, Ryan's race took on an almost symbolic meaning as the Speaker fought to keep Republican nominee Donald Trump in line with the party. Their relationship has been less than rosy, but voters were apparently not swayed by Trump's frequent criticisms of Ryan.

A Trump presidency could spell more trouble for the Janesville native - Trump's running mate Mike Pence declined to endorse him for the job moving forward just last week. Complicating matters further, any Democratic gains in the House could weaken Ryan's ruling coalition.

As of 8:40 p.m., Trump was leading in the presidential race.
