Oprah Winfrey attends UW-Milwaukee graduation ceremony

MILWAUKEE – Among the thousands of people attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s commencement on Sunday, there was one high-profile name that did not go unnoticed.

TODAY’S TMJ4 has learned that Oprah Winfrey was at the graduation with her long-time partner Stedman Graham to watch her half-sister, Pat, graduate.

Winfrey later confirmed this a few hours later on social media.

"My sister Pat who discovered she was a part of our family 6 years ago,had 1 big dream when I met her. To go to college and finish strong!Today that dream came true. Congratulations lil Sis.” Winfrey wrote on her Instagram and Facebook accounts.

 

Winfrey was born in Mississippi but spent much of her childhood in Milwaukee. Winfrey's mom, Vernita Lee, still lives in Milwaukee.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee awarded more than 2,100 degrees at its 117th commencement on Sunday, Dec. 17, at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.The university awarded 1,425 bachelor's degrees, 575 master's degrees, 127 doctoral degrees and 28 flexible option degrees. The average age of graduates is 26 years old. The youngest is 20; the oldest, 68.
